The Chapel Service
The Chapel Service is a worship gathering designed to raise up and support a vibrant, multi-generational community of faith at First Baptist Church of Alexandria. Because we believe that a heart of worship is integral to the Christian life, we consider the Chapel Service to be a centerpiece of our ministry and life together.
The Chapel Service is held on the first and third Sunday of every month, and begins at 5:00pm in the Chapel at FBCA.
What should you expect? The worship style is certainly "contemporary," but not in the usual sense of the term. We believe that newer and older practices can and should coexist, so the service itself can feel fairly eclectic from week to week, and draws from a wide spectrum of styles and traditions.
One of our underlying desires is to be deliberate and transparent about how we structure our time together. To that end, we follow an order intended to reflect the shape of the gospel narrative, and we're careful to walk through each element we see there -- things like call, praise, confession, response, and commission. Some of these elements are acknowledged liturgically as written prayers and litanies, but others are more casual. Whatever it happens to look like week by week, the goal remains the same: that God's word should be preached and that His name should be made great.
Finally, because the Chapel Service is a casual service, we want to make sure that families feel comfortable bringing the kids along with them. Childcare is provided, but children are certainly welcome to attend with their parents. Whether you’re a mature believer or simply curious about the Christian faith -- you’ll discover a welcoming and thoughtful community here to make your home.
Just as we did last year, we'll be taking a break this summer from lecio continua style study (walking through a book) and focus on a few topics. In May we'll be talking about John 13 and the meaning of the table - asking the question "what is the table for?" - and on June 4, we'll kick off our summer series focusing on biblical friendship - "what does a true friend do?." June 4 itself we'll be a worship service without preaching followed by a cookout down in the Garage for the Young Adult Ministry. Come and join us!
